In the mid-2000s there was a small, loose community of people making films in Saint John, New Brunswick. I was part of it. We weren’t particularly serious about it in a professional sense, more serious about each other and about the experience of making something. Arif Hussain wrote his MA thesis about this scene while it was still happening, which means it’s one of the only records of it that exists.
The same group organized the Summer Film Series and eventually a student conference and a couple of film festivals. I also made a short film during this period: Actors (2009).
